Completed Maloghurst Conversion and Painting, and a Claw for my Dreadnought

Maloghurst the Twisted / SoH Traitor Legion Herald Maloghurst the Twisted / SoH Traitor Legion Herald Maloghurst the Twisted / SoH Traitor Legion Herald Sons of Horus Contemptor Cortus with Kheres, Power Claw and Grav Gun Did up a little kitbash of old mate Maloghurst for an event on the weekend, I will use him as a Herald alternatively. I didn't go too heavy on the chipping or weathering as he isn't a front line unit, in games he actually never gets out of the Spartan as long as it's in one piece so he's still pretty fresh. I also did up a claw for my Contemptor with a grav gun on the inside, I generally run this guy as a Cortus in games to get his points down to 165 and the benefits can be pretty handy!

Sons of Walrus, heaps better photos on a white background! Oh, and offering commissioning now.

Holla, I've been asked a few times about doing some commission work for people and I thought, shit, why the hell not! So I've started up this site:  http://jack0284.wixsite.com/website  I've been fixing work for people for a bit now from some other commission painters and I know I can offer a better service than that. I'm working part time until the end of the year too now so I will have a bit of time up my sleeve to smash work out for clients. I'm going to update the blog section of that in tandem with this, using that page as more of a gallery of what I can do with miniatures and terrain. Also, ventured out into the big brave world of white backgrounds for that GW spec floating model look and I think it actually shows off my work on the dark green bodies of the SoH a lot better than the black backdrops did! Showcase: Sons of Horus Spartan Assault Tank

Finished this rig tonight! I went all in again on a bunch of techniques and tried to replicate a few things from Mig Jimenez' books FAQ and FAQ2. Had a bit of a malfunction with the pigment splatter going white when I put the protective clearcoat on the model but fixed that up I think with a bit of extra airbrushing. Really happy, I'm not sure how the mud splatter will hold up long term with gaming but I sealed it pretty thoroughly so it should be right.  Sons of Horus Spartan Assault Tank Sons of Horus Spartan Assault Tank Sons of Horus Spartan Assault Tank Sons of Horus Spartan Assault Tank Sons of Horus Spartan Assault Tank So at a conservative 2100pts now, next stop terrain! Will get to 2500 after I finish a few terrain pieces I have been working on. Cheers Jack

Sons of Horus Dreadnought Drop Pod Showcase - Bit of custom work.

Hey dudes, Not really been so stoked about a dedicated transport before, but this is a huge kit! I did a bit of custom stuff with the chains, skulls and icons, shaved off the aquillas on the doors and added some of my angle-studs to the doors. The paint job is actually something I am kinda proud of, it's the first time I have really done any airbrushing gradients properly on a vehicle, it's not perfect but I think it turned out ok. I put a heap of the Cthonian gang symbols around the base of the pod at Marine head height, like they are doing it before the pod drops and the big guy goes into battle. Weathering post paint work was composed of sponge chipping, weathering pigments, pin washes and streaking, airbrushed scorch marks from the turbine on to the top fins and also airbrushed and streaked scorch marks from the bottom of the pod up. I wanted to have a balance of weathering so that it could be placed down with the doors shut or open and look appropriate to each format. The...

Sons of Horus - 5 Justaerin Finished and an Army Progress Shot.

Yew, got a new squad done for the SoH! This is the first time I have done an airbrushed black with the stylised highlights as seen in the WIP photos preceding this post and I'm quite happy with the results. Previously I was a little lost to do with black aside from some line highlights and weathering pigments, it lightens the models up a bit but I really like the effect. 925pts down, Reavers are up next, hopefully a week or two as I am working in the bush at the moment and they were the only dudes I had airbrushed and ready for detailing. I need another Troop choice and some transports painted ASAP so they won't be too far behind. Jack Sons of Horus Justaerin Terminators Sons of Horus WIP
